Let me start by saying, the food has always been great. Wish we lived closer. LOL, but the service is religiously slow and unresponsive (you can set your watch to it). However, I see they hired at least one new girl who was awesome. That’s how service should always be. Honey, you earned them 5-stars across the board. Hope the others learn. Anyway, back to the food, love it!!!!! We’ve tried several dishes and they’ve all been tasty. If you’re in the neighborhood and don’t mind the wait (not because of a line), you won’t be disappointed. Oh, the peanuts and sriracha sauce you see in the photo came on the side.
I haven't dined-in yet, but all of the takeout I've had has been perfect! I usually go with a papaya salad and some sort of fresh catch. They have never let me down! My food is always ready fairly quick and staff is always extremely welcoming. If you want some authentic Lao food, check this place out!
Always GREAT, but today, they were busy with several larger parties, and the quality of what is normally delicious was affected.
The egg rolls were cold and very greased. They apparently shook the red pepper a little too fast and ruined the Chicken Basil as it was too seasoned hot to eat.
The waitress did a good job, taking our order and making sure we had water and extra napkins. Thank you for your great service.
Delightful Thai & Laos restaurant on the south side. Seating for around 50 I would guess. Wheelchair accessible.
Have tried many dishes here and always liked them. Typically order medium heat, which translates to super hot to me. I cannot imagine what the hot is. Generous portions.
They are open Tuesday- Sunday, closed Mondays. Lunch specials during the week.
Quick and friendly service. Locally owned and operated. You can tell all the veggies are cooked fresh and the food comes out piping hot.
I have been here a few times and it is clean, the staff is friendly. The food has always been good. My only gripe is they need to UPDATE their prices on the menu!! If someone is on a budget and planning to spend x amount and go off menu prices they would fall short. For example my order from their menu INSIDE restaurant which is same as the pictures here posted! Per the menu my meal would have been $20.95 plus tax, instead it was $24.97 pre tax. So please update your menu prices. Other than that I will really be going back!
Wife & I visited for dinner. We had the Chicken Sticks and egg rolls for appetizers. I had the chicken pad Thai without nuts and wife ate shrimp curry to take home, and T14 some seafood item to eat. All was well prepared, tasty and the service was fairly quick considering the place seats about 50 and there were 10-15 others with 2 waitresses. They prepare the food with MSG, but you can ask them to prepare without it. Definitely recommend if your in the mood for some quality asian food! Thanks for reading.
As we were sitting here waiting to order, I realized I have been dinning here for about 25 years now. The food is always excellent and we keep coming back for our favorites. Do not come here if you are in a hurry or really hungry, as the service is usually pretty slow. However, tonight the service wasn't too bad. You have to order the Angry Catfish, fried chicken wings, and papaya salad as these are a few of their signature dishes. Also, this is the only place I know of in the metro that serves khao poon (let me know if you know of another). We also really enjoy their pad sew ew, pad thai, and laap. If you have been here, it is definitely a hidden gem on the south side, just don't be in a hurry.
I have been dining at Nut Pob for over 20 years. Whenever I make it back home, it’s top of the places I have to visit in Des Moines. Thanks for the GREAT food over the years!!
